Custom Business Software or an ERP like Odoo: What to Choose in Morocco?

It often starts with an Excel file. Then comes a second store, a warehouse, more orders, several employees… and the file becomes a source of errors. Two paths open up: adopting a standard ERP like Odoo, or having custom business software built. Here's how to choose.

Signs that Excel is no longer enough

  • The stock on screen no longer matches the real stock.
  • Several people edit the same file and the versions contradict each other.
  • Orders from the website, WhatsApp and the shop are tracked in different places.
  • You spend hours preparing reports by hand.
  • You don't know in real time what sells, where and by whom.

What a standard ERP like Odoo offers

A standard ERP provides ready-made modules: sales, purchasing, stock, accounting, CRM, POS. It's a good choice if your processes are close to common practice and you're willing to adapt your organization to the tool.

Its limits show when your business has specific rules: customizations are expensive, paid editions are often billed per user, and the interface stays generic for your teams.

When custom software makes more sense

Custom software is designed around the way you work. It becomes worthwhile when:

  • your process is a competitive advantage (production, personalization, multiple stores);
  • you need local integrations: delivery companies, WhatsApp, POS and in-store hardware;
  • your teams must get up to speed fast, with simple screens tailored to each role;
  • you want to start small and add modules as you grow.

A real example: the Mieux Jeans platform

For Mieux Jeans, a Casablanca denim brand with two stores, we built a platform that connects the e-commerce site, the POS, the stock and production. It has six modules (orders, POS, stock, production, analytics, notifications and AI), six user roles, a POS that works offline with a scanner and thermal receipts, delivery through Cathedis to 616 cities and automatic WhatsApp alerts. Full details in the Mieux Jeans case study.

How much does custom business software cost?

A first focused module (inventory, POS or CRM) starts around 20,000 MAD. A complete multi-module platform usually costs between 40,000 and 120,000 MAD. Delivering module by module spreads the investment and puts the first screens to work quickly.

How a project runs

  • Analysis of your current processes and pain points.
  • Definition of the modules, roles and data.
  • Development in modules delivered progressively, with your feedback at each step.
  • Migration of your existing data (Excel, previous software).
  • Training your teams and a supported go-live.

Our advice

If your needs are standard, an ERP may be enough. If the way you work is what sets you apart, start with the module that costs you the most time, measure the gain, then expand. To talk it through, see our custom business software offer or contact us.
