3D Websites and Product Configurators: What Are They For, What Do They Cost?
3D isn't just for video games anymore. Thanks to WebGL and libraries like Three.js, a browser can display a product in 3D, rotate it and customize it in real time, with no app to install. Used well, 3D helps customers understand a product; used badly, it slows the site down. Here's how to get the most out of it.
What we mean by a 3D website
- A 3D hero section: an interactive object or scene that makes an impression on arrival.
- A 360° product viewer: customers rotate the product, zoom in and pick preset views.
- A 3D configurator: customers choose colors, materials and options and see the result live, often with the price updating.
- An immersive scene: a whole page built around a 3D world, for a brand or a launch.
Why 3D helps sell
A photo shows one angle; a 3D model shows everything. For a customizable or technical product, 3D answers the questions customers ask before buying: what this finish looks like, what the back looks like, how a given combination of options turns out. Customers reach the cart or the quote request knowing exactly what they want.
An example: our guitar configurator
For a redesign proposal for the guitar maker James Tyler Guitars, we modeled a guitar in Blender and built a real-time configurator with Three.js and React Three Fiber. Customers choose the wood, finish, texture, pickguard, pickups and hardware, rotate the guitar freely or use preset views, then share their configuration or order it. The project stayed at the desktop-prototype stage, but it shows what a configurator can do: see the case study.
3D and mobile speed
The main risk with a 3D website is slowness. Good practices:
- lighten the models: fewer polygons and compressed textures;
- load the 3D after the main content, when the browser is idle;
- show a still image of the model in the meantime, so the page never looks empty;
- test on real phones, not just on a powerful computer.
We apply these rules to our own website: the 3D moon on the home page went from over 600 KB to under 300 KB with no visible difference, and only loads once the page has appeared.
3D and SEO
Google doesn't read a 3D scene. A 3D page must therefore keep real text content, headings and structured data, and stay fast. 3D enriches the experience; it doesn't replace the content.
How much does a 3D website cost in Morocco?
At Lunar Innovate, interactive 3D effects and elements are included from the Business Pro pack at 24,900 MAD. A full product configurator depends on the number of products and options, 3D model preparation and integrations (store, quotes, WhatsApp): it gets a detailed quote.
Industries where 3D makes a difference
Furniture and interior design, jewelry, musical instruments, real estate and architecture, industry, automotive, cosmetics: whenever a product is better seen from every angle or customized, 3D gives a real edge. To discuss it, see our 3D website and configurator offer.
